This elevated nighttime view of the historic centre of Istanbul was taken looking south from Beyoglu district on the European side of the city. The body of water in the foreground is the Golden Horn (Halic / Altin Boynuz in Turkish), an inlet of the Bosporus (Bogazi / Bogazici). Lining it is the busy ferry terminal at Eminonu. Behind the waterfront, the former church and mosque of Aya Sofia is on the left and the Sultanahmet Mosque (better known as the Blue Mosque) is on the right. Both are in the Sultanahmet district of the city.
