The Battle of Fort Donelson was a battle in the American Civil War fought on 11-12th February 1862 in Kentucky. It was an Unionist amphibious assault on Fort Donelson under the command of Ulysses Grant, and it was a Unionist victory as the fort was captured. The image depicts a bayonet charge and capture of the outer intrenchments of the fort.
