While evidence that grandfather was born in Scotland would seem to beconclusive, the other significant fact that his speech was clean-cut English with-out the faintest symptom of the Scottish clip, is strong presumptive evidence of hisEnglish pareutage; therefore in the absence of more definite information, I ad-here to my conclusions as already expressed, namely, that Grandfather Yates wasborn of English parents near to or on Scottish soil; that in his early teens he wasapprenticed as a laborer near Portsmouth, England ; that soon thereafter becameover the sea as a stowaway, landing in Boston and drifting thence to > X ^ ^J
