Infection following breast surgery. This breast had reconstruction surgery performed on it following a mastectomy for breast cancer. An implant, which has been exposed by the infection, was inserted into the breast during the reconstruction surgery. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. Treatment is with removal of the tumour only, where possible, or complete removal of the breast, usually followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
