This includes efforts toraise wages and to prevent their fall, reduction of hours of labor and pre-vention of their increase, the regulation of apprentices, overtime, piecework,and many other difficulties which arise in the complicated relations of laborand capital. It is generally acknowledged that the trade union has reached itshighest state of organization and power in Great Britain, and that theBritish workman, in consequence, controls the situation more fully than inany other country. This form of organization has only of late yearsappeared on the continent of Europe, freedom to combine having been denied. THE HERO OF THE STRIKE, COAL CREEK, TENN.
