This area south of Glasgow has had virtually continuous rain for the past seven days and the town is now looking forward to the annual Viking Festival to commemorate the Battle of Largs 2 October 1263. The battle is commemorated in Largs by an early 20th-century monument, and festivities held on the seafront, annually since the 1980s. Close to Largs lies the Isle of Cumbrae, just a mile offshore.
