Gardeners' and Florists' Society The nineteenth annual flower show of the above named society was held in Assembly Hall, Madison, N. J., Octo- ber 28-29. Long ago this society estab- lished a fine record in the exhibition of a great variety of fine stock, ana it is keeping up with the times. While at this time of year many in the trade think of .shows largely as exhibitions of chrysanthemums, at this one there was a great variety of other fine stock. For a flrst-class tiower show, good stock is very important, but clever and tasteful arrangement also looms large. The stage of Assembly Hall was very handsomely decorated with a variety of single and hardy chrysanthemums from the range of Charles H. Lotty, Madison, N. J.; L. B. Coddington, Murray Hill, N. J., and Harry O. May, Summit, N. J. The exhibits of chrysanthemums from various private estates were very fine. Particularly noteworthy were those of W. H. Duckham, superintendent for Mrs. D. Wilis James, Madison, N. J., James Fraser, superintendent for O. H. Kahn, Morristown, N. J., and Robert Tyson, superintendent for Mrs. H. McK. Twombly, Madison. N. 3. There were also fine features from the estates of Dr. D. H. McAlpine, Morris Plains, N. J.; Mrs. John Crosby Brown, Orange, N. J., and C. W. Harkness, Madison, N. J. W. A. Manda, South Orange, N. J., exhibited a collection of his new dahlias. These dahlias are of remarkable size and beauty. Artiong many other fine exhibition chrysanthemums, C. H. Totty exhib- ited a new white, which he has named Mrs. J. Purroy Mitchel, in honor of the wife of the mayor of the city of New York.
