The Rio Grande River; looking upstream; or westerly; at the mouth of Santa Elena Canyon; near Castolon; Texas; Big Bend National Park. Heartland of the Mescalero Apache; this was the last; most remote frontier along the Mexican Border. The Apache held that the Great Spirit; having completed making the Earth; used the Big Bend as a dumping ground for leftover rocks.
