‘The Cloisters’, Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, were built in 1905-7 for Miss Annie Lawrence as a school for adults where students slept in hammocks, and swam in its pool. Miss Lawrence believed that fresh air nourished both the body and mind. The building has a tower, turrets, and open spiral staircases.
