Two young men zigzag down 91 steep limestone steps after climbing to the top of El Castillo (The Castle), also known as the Temple of Kukulcan, the most famous Mayan ruin in the ancient archaeological site of Chichen Itza on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The narrow stairs were built at a 45-degree angle on all four sides of this pyramid-shaped structure. Ever since a climber fell to her death in 2006, visitors are no longer allowed to ascend the 99-foot-tall (30-meter) monument that was constructed in the 12th Century. This pre-Columbian landmark is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
