The grave of Hercules the bear in Langass Woods, North Uist. DETAILS IN DESCRIPTION.

Hercules was a trained grizzly bear who went missing on the Hebridean island of Benbecula while filming a Kleenex advert in 1980. Despite hundreds of volunteers searching for him he was not found until 24 days later. During his time on the run he had lost 15 stone (95Kg) as he had grown to dislike raw meat and did not attempt to attack any of the island's wildlife or farm animals. The publicity helped his film career and he appeared in the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy amongst others. He died in February 200 aged 25 - the normal lifespan for a grizzly in the wild.
