Ash falling from slow-burning incense coils dusts the uniformed crewmen and cannon on the deck of a model traditional junk on display inside the A-Ma Temple in Macau, China, founded in 1488, during the Ming Dynasty. The temple was built in the place where A-Ma or Tin Hau, the Taoist mother-goddess and protector of seafarers, is said to have landed after surviving a shipwreck, before she ascended to heaven from the peak of nearby Barra Hill.
