US Civil War photographers. Photographers and wagon in a forested area in 1864 during the US Civil War. This photograph is from a collection of photographs associated with US Civil War photographer Mathew B. Brady (1823-1896). Brady is famous for his large collection of photographs taken during the US Civil War (1861-1865). He worked with many of the early types of photographs, such as daguerrotypes, ambrotypes, albumen prints and cartes de visite. He and his team of photographers took travelling darkrooms to battlefields around the USA, bringing the stark reality of the Civil War to the American public.
