JONES THE other day a visitor to the Col-lective Gas Exhibit in the Palaceof Manufactures was casually looking atsome of the latest successes in incandes-cent gas lighting, and an attendant offeredto explain the economy and efficiency ofthe lights. The stranger remarked: Is it possiblethat you gas men are trying to stay thehands of progress by postponing your ex-termination by electricity? The attendant replied, Why! Gas isused to warm the hands of progress. The gas industry is very near the headof the list of the great purveyors of com-fort and convenience to the public, andthe use of gas for cooking, heating andlighting throughout the Panama-PacificExposition when considered in connec-tion with the most complete CollectiveGas Exhibit in the Palace of Manufac-tures, brings gas into its own.
