Shoulder and back anatomy. Artwork of a rear (posterior) view of muscles (red) and bones of the shoulder and upper back. At lower centre is the latissimus dorsi muscle of the back. The trapezius muscle of the upper back has been removed, revealing the rhomboid muscles (upper centre) that attach to the scapula (shoulder blade) and the spine. The infraspinatus muscle (upper left) lies on the posterior surface of the scapula. Partially seen below it are the teres minor and teres major muscles. Above it is the supraspinatus muscle on top of the scapula. Either side of the neck, attaching to the scapula and the cervical vertebrae, are the levator scapulae muscles.
