The KingstonLumber Company was organized in 1888 by JohnC. Van Loan, Thomas Lawless, John T. Phillipsand William Penn Kirkendall, and from thattime the business of this company has engagedmuch of his attention; indeed, of the originalcompany, he is now the only member connectedwith it. He has given his attention since 1894to the business of the lumber company and hisother personal concerns in Kingston and maintains his residence in Dallas, and boththere and in Wilkes-Barre has taken an interestin public affairs. While living in Wilkes-Barrehe was councilman three years, and later in Dal-las borough six years; was school director sev-eral terms; president of the Dallas AgriculturalSociety one year, and president of the LuzerneCounty Agricultural Society five years.
