John J. and Bridget (Sullivan) Healey; pub. schl.; entered the police service in the old Town of Lake,1887, and has served continuously since that date; in charge ofmounted police; office, 1121 S. State St. 319. OHN S., FIELD, president of the Knickerbocker Ice Com-pany and Tlie Consumers Company, of Cliicago, is a native ofBeloit, Wis., where he was born Aug. 14, 1847, the son ofSpafford C. and Martha Ann (Durgin) Field. He waseducated in the Beloit high school and after his graduationcame to Chicago, where he obtained employment with Swett & Crouch,ice dealers, in 1867. The business was purchased in 1879 b}^ E. A. Shedd & Company, ofwhich Mr. Field was a member. The firm was incorporated in 1885 andMr. Field was vice-president and general manager. He was elected presi-dent of the company in 1898, after it had been reorganized into the Knicker-bocker Ice Company and had absorbed thirty-five other ice companies ofthe city. In addition to being at the head of the Knickerbocker and Consumerscompanies, Mr. Field is president of the Eastern Indiana Company anddirector of many western subsidiaries of the New York Central also is a director of the Chicago, Terre Haute & Souther
