Sunset from Lion's Head near Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa. Lion's Head is a mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. It's peak is 669 m/2195 ft above sea level and is located between Table Mountain and Signal Hill. Signal Hill was known as Lion's Tail in the 17th century, as the shape of the two mountains resembles a crouching lion facing Table Mountain. Dutch settlers in the area called the two peaks Leeuwen Kop (Lion's Head) and Leeuwen Staart (Lion's Tail). It a popular hike to do from Cape Town and takes about an hour to reach the peak.
