Eye injuries and their treatment . es the case of a young man who told me that, the nightbefore I saw him, when he was on his way home, he had been assaultedand robbed by a gang of ruffians, and had received a kick upon the righteye. The excruciating pain and great loss of blood caused him to faiiit, and he was found in an unconscious state by a policeman some timeafterwards. There was a wide rent in the sclerotic, through which it wasevident that the clear structures of the eye had escaped, and throughwhich a large prolapse of the choroid and retina had taken place. Theball was filled with blood, which had also infiltrated the substance ofthe cornea and formed a thin layer in front of the iris, giving rise to theappearance of a pupil though no pupil was there. The conjunctiva waschemosed, and the lid was swollen and discoloured. When the globewas enucleated, it was found to be occupied by a large blood clot, allthe proper intra-ocular structures having escaped except some fragmentsof the uvea and the retina. PLATE VIII.
