White flags make wire visible to greater sage-grouse in dim light reducing collisions and mortality. Placed near lek.

Barb wire fencing is a hazard to flying grouse. Collisions with wire fencing are a high cause of grouse mortality. Greater sage-grouse fly into their lek well before dawn and can't see the fence wire. Marking study areas in Idaho found white flagging placed on wires reduced grouse collisions from 60 to 80 percent.
