The Archaeological journal. one, or two parallel narrowones, or one broad one half-way up the blade and twonarrow ones for the other half I have made complete measurements of a greatnumber of blades, weighed them, and determined theircentre of gravity and centre of percussion, moment ofinertia, and so on. Though the tables of statisticsthus formed have not been completely analysed, I havegot some interesting results. In spite of differencesof length and other dimensions, the smiths have, byexperience, been able to observe a wonderful uniformityin, and are evidently quite alive to the importance of, thejjosition of the centre of percussion. In order to showgnqjhically what is meant by centre of percussion, Ihave made a piece of apparatus. (See Plate and note atthe end of the paper.) Different swords agree remarkablyin the position of the centre of gravity and the centre ofpercussion, when the distance of these points from somefixed point is expressed as a percentage of the length of ILATE X.
