Grytviken whaling station. Abandoned whaling ships beached at Grytviken whaling station, South Georgia. This is one of several abandoned whaling stations in South Georgia. Grytviken was abandoned in 1965 because of declining stocks of whales. This whaling station is part of a restoration project aimed at preserving the cultural heritage of whalers and whaling.
