The east facade is treatedwith an elaboration second to that of the northern western facade, 300 feet long, presents quite distinctarchitectural features. On each side the great Palace of^Machinery presents entirely dissimilar design and two adjoining facades form even similar perspective. Forty thousand horses pulling together represent thepower used on the Worlds Fair-grounds. The prime movers. that furnish thisgreat power areliving exhibits oc-cupying the entirewestern half of thePalace of ]\Iachin-ery. Such lines of en-gines and dyna-mos have neverbeen seen. In-eluded in thegroup is a modernsteam turbine of8,000-horse powerand a gas motor of 3,000 horse-power. Passing into !Machinery Hall through the central entrance from the north, thevisitor sees in front of him a 5,000 horse-power reciprocatingsteam engine. This engine and its base have a total height of54 feet: 20 feet of this is depressed below the floor level, andthe remaining 34 feet is elevated above the floor level.
