Concrete Rio Mapocho bridge silhouette trees, towar bright yellow Coastal Cordillera sunset flying bird, Centro, Santiago, Chile
The Rio Mapocho splits Santiago in two. It was canalised in the 19th century to manage river floods and allow urban development of the river banks. Chile's geological structure involves a Central Valley between the Andes to the east and Coastal Range of hills to the west. Here we see the sun setting behind the Coastal Hills to the west of Santiago.
