The Wingo Drawbridge crosses Sonoma Creek near the ghost town of Wingo in Northern California, North of San Francisco.

The Wingo Drawbridge crosses Sonoma Creek near the ghost town of Wingo. Located in Northern California, in the marshes north of San Pablo Bay, Wingo was once a railroad connection point for visitors arriving by steam boat from San Francisco. The Wingo Drawbridge is one of the few examples of a Scherzer Rolling Bridge, a design that has no pivots or hinges. When opened to water traffic the span rolls like a rocking chair, only further. The bridge was built in the 1920's by the Toledo Bridge & Crane Co. and is typical of that period before welding came into general use.
