Female body, CT scans. Coloured 3-D computed tomography (CT) scans of a female in frontal view. The CT scanner is able to reveal data at various surface depths. The image on the far left is the subject fully clothed. On the far right is the skeleton of the same subject. These images were produced using a multi-slice CT scanner, which uses a thin X-ray beam to scan around the patient to create 'slices' of the body. A computer reconstructs the slices into coloured three- dimensional images including bones and soft tissue. The surgeon can navigate through the data by using a 'fly-through' animation of the images. This image was created using OsiriX medical imaging software.
