There is no "spot" in evidence thus far and if climatic conditions should continue to favor, the outlook for this year's violet business is exceedingly bright. As a result of last season's experience some of the smaller growers in tnis sec- tion have dropped out and gone into something else but, nevertheless, violet production is decidedly on the increase and it is feared by observant authorities that there are more flowers in prospect for the coming season than the market will take at values heretofore prevailing. This year, shipments of bloom began at least one week earlier than was the case last year. Among the recent additions to the violet growing industry in Rhine- beck are J. Ferris, R. Decker and Chas. Traver, each of whom has erected one house this season. G. A. Saltford is again in charge of his father's place here, having rented his establishment in Poughkeepsie to Mr. Hoffman. Manhattan, Kans.—Assistant Dickens, of the Kansas Agricultural College, has returned from the Pan-American IJxposi- tion at Buffalo, where he had gone to study horticultural problems and land- scape art.
