Hebron is one of the most disputed cities of the West Bank. Hundreds of Israeli settlers have decided to come and live here since 1967 building numerous settlements, currently among the largest in Palestine. Today the city is divided in two: H1 area about 120 thousand Arabs living under Palestinian authority and H2 area, under the authority of the Jewish state, with nearly 700 Israelis, along with other 30 thousand Palestinians. Each entering or leaving the between the two zones is controlled by the military of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), about 2,000 in all. The Jews settlers are ultra-Orthodox and live in huge contrast with the Palestinian population for different uses and religious customs. Emblematic of this situation is Shuhada Street which in the past has been one of the main shopping streets for the Palestinian population, as well as the main artery for residents of Hebron / Al Khalil. Today, because Shuhada Street runs through the Jewish colony in the city is denied access to Palestinians residents. According to data released by the organizations in defense of human rights, with the progressive closures and restrictions imposed on Shuhada Street, more than 1,000 Palestinian residents have left their homes and more than 1,800 stores were forced to close.
