Ornamental brass inlays in Boulle technique on the lid, displaying the ducal coronet above an alloy "SM". In the lid, a (slightly cracked) palette of bird's-eye maple. Inside a removable box with an iron water container, a porcelain mix holder, a brush, and a variety of large, ivory painting surfaces.
