Provenance: "Cassell's Complete Atlas" ( "The Weekly Dispatch Atlas"), Published by Cassell, Petter and Galpin, London (Dispatch London maps) [Cassell's Weekly Dispatch Atlas]. Type: Antique map with original outline colour. The map shows the site and layout of the 1862 International Exhibition which was held in South Kensington adjacent to the Hoticultural Society's Gardens, on the site now occupied by the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. the site of the earlier 1851 Great Exhibition at the south edge of Hyde park is also marked. Battersea Park can be seen at the bottom of the map, and the newly opened Victoria Station towards the right hand side. Battersea Station and Railway Pier, which had been the main terminus for the Chatham and Dover Railway prior to the opening of Victoria Station, is marked. Tattersalls Yard and race horse auctioneers is shown in its original location next to St George's Hospital. Grosvenor Crescent has since been extended through this location from Belgrave Square to reach Grosvenor Place.
