The first budding flower blooms of grapes growing in late spring on the vine at Vista D'oro, a small family owned winery and grape orchard south of Vancouver, British Columbia in Langley, just north of the US-Canada border. The spiderweb-like threads are "cottony filaments," or "tomentum," a natural webbing produced by the plant as the bud emerges to protect against insects. The blooming bud is called "bud breaks."
