Osteoarthritis. Swollen right hand and wrist due to osteoarthritis, a common joint disease which may be aggravated by mechanical stress. It is characterised by degeneration of the cartilage lining the joints or by the formation of osteophytes (bony outgrowths). Symptoms of osteoarthritis include pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of function in the joints. The hips, knees and spine are the most commonly affected sites. Treatment includes taking painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy and joint replacement surgery.
