The snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus) is a spectacular white owl of the northern polar tundra regions of Canada, Greenland, Scandinavia and Northern Russia. It feeds on mammals up to the size of hares and birds up to the size of Geese. Also occasionally takes fish, crabs and large insects. Hunts mainly at dawn and dusk. Its white plumage helps to camouflage it from its prey.
