PICTURES OF YESTERYEAR - Managed by PPL PHOTO AGENCY Circa 1871 AmericaÕs Cup: a drawing of the US yacht COLUMBIA, one of four defenders selected by the New York Yacht Club to contest the 1871 AmericaÕs Cup matches. The series was the best of seven matches with the New York Yacht Club being allowed to field four defenders, though only one could take part in a race. COLUMBIA won the first two matches against the British challenger LIVONIA, but when she lost the third she was replaced by SAPPORO, which won the next two and the series, 4:1.
