Here he can be seen at work using maps to select which households should be interviewed. According to the original caption: 'Sometimes the interviewer picks the houses himself from street numbers. 'Samples' are selected with great care to include people of all income groups. On national surveys 'samples' are taken in every part of the country to allow for local peculiarities'.
