The investigations embodied in thepresent report were undertaken with a view to the accurate deter-mination of the economic status of every species of California birdthat inhabits orchards, in order that it may be possible for the fruitraiser to discriminate between friend- and foe-: and for the addedpurpose of suggesting remedial measures for the protection of fruitfrom destructive species.
