Maltsters turning malt in Langley Maltings, W. Midlands, 1980s
Langley Maltings belonged to Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries and was used to produce malted barley for the brewing of beer. Traditionally malting is a hard labour but skilled job and has always been undertaken by men but during the World War II it is known that women worked the maltings. In 2005 they are worked by 11 maltsters and 2 foremen 7 days a week and every day of the year. Langley Maltings ceased operating in 2007 and was destroyed in a fire in 2009
