Hawaiinever has needed to import from abroad suitable sympathyand a kindly regard for the comfort of its lepers. Prob-ably no nation has ever borne a heavier burden or done itso sympathetically and generously. Its policy of segrega-tion has not been a policy of ostracism, but a wise seclu-sion of its afflicted people for their own benefit andcomfort, and for the safety of the rest. Honolulu peoplehonor themselves by their frequent contributions to thecomfort of these Kalawao unfortunates, in addition to thegenerous provision made by the Board of Health.
