JTFES participated in the Multi Agency Super Surges (MASS) which was held on the same day as the 2014 Boston Marathon, as part of the overall readiness/training and response capabilities in securing the citizens of the NY Metropolitan Area. Joint Task Force - Empire Shield conducts Homeland Security operations, in the New York City Metropolitan Area, in order to deter and prevent terrorist acts.
