His moved from Scotland,Conn., to Schoharie in 1806. He had a Christiantraining in a devoutly Christian home, and earlycame into the Christian life. His preparation for college was in the academy ofhis native town ami in New Haven. Conn. He en-tered Williams College in 1838, and graduated in 1842,among the first in his class. He pursued his theo-logical studies at Auburn, N. Y. He was licensed topreach by the Presbytery of Cayuga April 16, supplied the Presbyterian Church in Russia,N. Y., tor some time. He was ordained and installed ^\^\4.
