Augmentin antibiotic drug. Box containing co-amoxiclav powder, marketed under the name Augmentin, for oral administration. Co-amoxiclav is a combination drug containing amoxicillin (a penicillin antibiotic) and the beta-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid. It was developed in the 1970s by the British pharmaceutical company Beecham. This packet has been produced by GlaxoSmithKline. The combination of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid increases the spectrum of infections the drug can be used against, allowing its use against bacteria that are resistant to amoxicillin.
