The Holocaust Memorial of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, Miami Beach, Florida.

The Holocaust Memorial of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation at 1933-1945 Meridian Avenue, in Miami Beach, Florida. The memorial consists of a circular island with huge bronze arm sculpture, within a circular lake. There is a covered pergola beginning a long list of the victims. At the end of the pergola you enter a long passageway with stone panels each bearing the names of the Nazi death camps. At the end of the passageway you find that the giant arm is surrounded by heart-wrenching bronze sculptures of victims struggling trying to survive the death camps. The memorial was conceived by a committee of Holocaust survivors in 1984. It was designed by Kenneth Treister on a site designated by the City of Miami Beach Commission at Meridian Avenue and Dade Boulevard. The Memorial was opened on Sunday, February 4, 1990.
