Navy pilot Lt. Reggie Hamon expends flares from his F/A-18C Hornet over the Pacific Ocean during a competitive training exercise on Aug. 16, 1999. Hamon, from Strike Fighter Squadron 146 of Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif., is deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). The Stennis and its embarked Carrier Air Wing 9 are going through the training exercise in preparation for their next deployment.
