On February 2, 1779, Mr. Bray andMr. Baker were appointed a committee byCommon Council to draft a resolution andpresent it to the Legislature for the purposeof securing certain privileges and the ex-emption of certain duties to firemen, andthis action eventually resulted in the lawwhich exempts firemen from militia andjury duty.
