It is grown in out-buildings, cellars, caves, or wherever a uniform temperature of 6o° to 700 can be maintained. Make beds of ferment- ing manure, which should be large and deep enough to acquire a heat of about 700. When at the proper temperature, insert bits of spawn at intervals. As soon as signs of growth appear, place two inches of soil over them, and cover all with straw. Water is used if necessary, which should«be warmed to the temperature of the bed. Mushrooms appear in six to eight weeks, and should be collected when at the proper size for the table. More complete directions are contained in each box. French Mushroom Spawn is supplied in boxes and English in bricks. TIUSTARD. French. Moutarde; German, Sen/; Spanish, Motazce. A hardy, pungent plant, highly esteemed by many as an appetizing salad, for which purpose it should be cut when two or three inches high. It is also used when larger as greens. The seed has an extensive sale, and is used in its natural state and prepared. It should be sown in rich, mellow soil, as early as the ground can be well prepared, in drills fifteen inches apart. SOUTHERN G 5 A NT CURLED.—Highly es- teemed in the south, where it is sown in the fall, and produces enormous bunches. Excellent for salad, and very generally used for greens, for which it is largely cultivated. YELLOW CALIFOR= NIA,or WHITE ENGLISH.
