Kiruna iron mine overlooks the town of Kiruna. It is the world's largest underground iron ore mine, owned by Swedish state-owned company LKAB. The mine, which opened in 1900, has created a geological instability that is forcing the arctic town of Kiruna to relocate, little by little. Around 6,000 people will have been relocated to new housing three kilometers east of the old town by 2035.
