Influenza virus infection
Illustration of the principle of replication of the flu virus. The flu virus grips the surface of the host cell (orange) thanks to receptors that recognise the virus and allow it to penetrate the host cell. The virus RNA is transformed into mRNA, then the host cell will synthesise viral proteins and produce viral RNA. These elements gather on the surface of the host cell to form new viruses (newly formed virions) in large quantites that invade the organism.
