Chinese Domestic Goose (Anser cygnoides) adult male, captive, sitting, Washington Wetland Centre, England, Europe

The Swan Goose (Anser cygnoides) is a large goose (length 81 - 94 cm) with a natural breeding range in Mongolia and eastern Russia. It is migratory and winters mainly in south and east China where it is familiarly known as the Chinese Goose. It has been domesticated for centuries. This flock forming migrant large waterbird has a very rapidly declining population as a result of habitat loss particularly to agricultural development and unsustainable levels of hunting. It therefore qualifies as endangered.
