Hewas summoned to the Hampton Court Conference, and was one ofthe revisers of the Authorized Version of the Bible. In publicaffairs he took no part, and, though he was a strong High Churchman,his honesty of mind and genuine piety prevented him from beingintolerant. His preaching and character won him the favour andrespect of both Elizabeth and James I.
