Since the first childs welfare exhibit was held inNew York in 1911, Chicago, Kansas City, Northamp-ton, Mass., St. Louis, Buffalo and Montreal have heldexhibitions with good results. All cities where childswelfare exhibits have been held have shown results inincreased appropriations for childrens interests, newlaws restricting working hours and the opening ofmany buildings for recreation purposes. In New York alone the appropriation to the divisionof child hygiene of the health department was in-. ALL SOUTH BLDG. creased to $17,705. A home was set aside for childswelfare work and the city appropriated $35,000 for anew childrens court building. Probation officers wereincreased, four judges were transferred from the courtof special sessions in the criminal branch to the chil-drens court. In Buffalo a convalescent home for children on thecottage plan, open all the year round, has been estab-lished since the childs welfare exhibit, as well as morevocational schools. Recreation and swimming poolsare on the way and effort is being made to establisha home for the feeble-minded. In Providence, R. I., many new laws for the benefitof children have been passed. One of the most striking features of the childsexhibit at the National Conservation Exposition willbe the exhibition of pictures which cannot fail to at-tract attention as they will tell their story with as fewwords as possible.
